Here’s a quick rundown of two of the state’s marquee girls golf matchups that took place Sept. 2 …
#3 Hamilton Southeastern 161, #1 Roncalli 163, Greenwood 193
Third-ranked Hamilton Southeastern posted a two-shot upset of No. 1 Roncalli, with host Greenwood another 30 strokes back in a three-way match held on The Creek nine at The Legends in Franklin.
“Our Royals played just well enough,” said HSE coach Steve Guenin, whose team was coming off a win the night before at the loaded Hoosier Crossroads Conference Tournament at Bear Slide in Cicero.
Brooke Beegle led the way for the HSE girls, firing a 2-over 38. Anne Leighty added a 40, with Kelsey Smith logging a 41 and Darcy Allman a 42.
#2 Carmel 161, #9 Noblesville 174
Second ranked Carmel improved to 13-1 in dual matches this season with its 13-stroke victory over No. 9 Noblesville at the 2,589-yard, par-35 Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville (rating 69.3, slope 120).
Carmel’s Ariana Savich tied for medalist honors with Meghan Potee of Noblesville with a 2-over 37. Hilary Givens tied her personal best with a 39 for the victorious Greyhounds, while Briana Midkiff shot a 40 and Kate McDougal struggled to a 45.
“The course was in great shape tonight – the greens were fast and fairways tight, with out-of-bounds on every hole,” said 10th-year Carmel coach Ken Kelly. “I thought the team did a nice job.”
